Original 2 color dry point etching known as " Painting Place " or " Hilltop "
David Milne is best described as a modernist with his own original and very personal style setting him apart from his comtempories. Canadian born, David Brown Milne spent his early art career in the United States where he studied at the Art Student's League. In New York he exhibited at the American Water Color Society and the Pennsylvannia Academy. In 1913 five of his works were shown at the Sixty-ninth Regiment Armory, more than any other artist including the likes of Van Gogh, Cézanne, Matisse. During WW1 Milne served as a Canadian war artist and upon his return he then spent most of life moving between the Adirondacks and Canada until the early 1930's. He then moved to Six Mile Lake, Ontario and the art world slowly passed David Milne by until his death in 1953. In 2005 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the British Museum in London and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto will be part of a major exhibition of David Milne's art. Outside of the art world, the public knows little of David Milne's work but this exhibition may just be the cataylist to make him a household name.
