"SLAB TOWN"
Etching #42/50 plate 13" x 21.5"
Slab Town is an etching of a pond not far from my Millbrook studio. The pond was created to service a rather large sawmill that apparently was moved to another area. I guess they ran out of logs to cut. There were other buildings around the mill and huge piles of wood slabs all around. It became locally known as Slabtown. At least thats how the story goes. I rather like this etching as there is ambiguity as to what is above the duckweed defined surface and what is reflected on it. Also the etching has an abstract like quality in the strong diagonals and rich dark tones. It is one of a series of sepia toned wetland etchings I did at the time. George
