Fees & Sponsors
Most Youth Leagues are supported by Clubs and Organizations or self-sponsored. Like the Adult Leagues funds are required to assist in the running of the Organization. The Niagara Peninsula Youth Leagues' have established a one time Fee for the players of $20.00, part of which goes toward Darts Ontario Registration. It should be noted that in some areas the Directors will charge their members a weekly fee to play in the League. Throughout the Season funds are raised with Christmas Draws, Half and Half Draws, Tournaments and assistance from the Adult Leagues. At the end of the Season there is a Presentation Night which includes Dinner and Teen Dance and each member is presented with achievement Trophies.
Although each League may vary their formats, the general rule is a team format. Most games are 501 Straight-in, Double-out, with a variance at each skill level, Doubles and Singles is Double-in 5 or 301. The Novice level (9 to 12 years) do not have to double-out but must throw 2 darts in the single number which they are to finish. The Junior and Senior level players must Double-out. Recently the introduction of the game of Cricket has increased the interest of the Youth and created a more competitive spirit. During the season Directors should also "pair" players as Doubles partners.
The Directors must be aware of each of the players' progress during the time they are at the board. It is suggested that a "point system" be implemented: eg: 2 points for finishing, doubling-in, point for High Scores, finishes etc. this should also include Attendance each week.
