Canadian artist
James
Andrew Gielfeldt was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia and raised in
Fergus,
Ontario. From a relatively young age James developed an interest in
drawing and painting, and continued to pursue this through his
formative years.
After many years as a part-time artist, James attended Niagara College
A.A.T in Welland ON. where he received formal training in the Visual
Creative Art and Design programme. After receiving his diploma James
worked as a commercial screen-printer before being hired as a studio
technician and part-time instructor in the V.C.A.D programme at Niagara
College where he taught silkscreening, life drawing and airbrush
techniques.
James currently works as Professor
of Life Drawing at Niagara College in the Graphic Design Production/
Art Design Fundamentals programme and has also
taught art classes for Youth Innovations (City of Welland), The St.
Catherine's Academy of Fine Artists and occasionally, private lessons.
James has a strong interest and great pride in his Danish heritage and
explores this through his work in such efforts as his Norse Mythology
series. He plans on more exploration of this genre in the future.
Recently, James was accepted into the 2007 Florence Biennale, in
Florence, Italy.
James
lives in Welland with
his wife Tawnya and their two sons, Sammuel Wolfgang and Aleczander
Sebastian.
