Drawing
Animals
Victor Ambrus
Filled with Ambrus' reflections on the delights
and dilemas of drawing animals, this breathtaking guide will be loved by
anyone who appreciates the art of sketching. This oversized book is packed
with the beautiful, loose and lively drawings Victor Ambrus is known for.
From very quick sketches to more detailed, full-tonal studies, more than
350 drawings feature a variety of animals-polar bears, elephants, chimpanzees,
tigers, wolves, kangaroos, giraffes, zebras, macaws, owls, ostriches-as
well as cats, dogs and horses. Each animal requires a different approach,
and for each sketch, Ambrus explains his techniques. He also offers
sound advice for drawing animals in the proper proportion and other key
principles that make the challenge of drawing animals easier. Victor
Ambrus was an award-winning artist and esteemed member of the Royal Society
of Arts in England. He studied at the Hungarian Academy of
Fine Art and graduated from the Royal College of Art in London, going on
to illustrate more than 200 books, including The Three Poor Tailors and
Mishka, both Kate Greenaway Medal winners.
