Since 1993 Canaan Farm has been maintaining and improving a line of this rare breed. The original numbers grew quickly and were added to with a few animals from the Aylward flock. In 2001 the flock, which numbered about 80, was purged of most of the original St John's stock and their direct descendents. Four new flocks have been formed. Only rams from lines likely to be approved by the Newfoundland Sheep Committee are being used. Stock from approved bloodlines will be introduced occasionally. Selection will be for commercial value traits unless alternate guidlines are suggested by the NF Sheep Committee.
This breed has good commercial value.
Starter flocks for sale to breeders who continue to maintain pedigrees on the SFIP program. Particularly nice group of 2005 "R" lambs available from Sire VIN 204K "Kusser", pictured below.
