We are looking for a family sailboat. We have young kids ( 2 and 3). We also want to also have a bit of performance (not a bathtub). Is the CL16 a boat to consider? How does it compare to the Albacore?

hi Gabby!
We purchased our CL16 when our two younsters were preschool, and we've never regretted it. We sold a Chrysler Mutineer to do it; TH CL16 was much more stable, more predictable, and almost as fast. I'm not familiar with the Albacore, but over the last 17 years I've been impressed over and over with the quick response, heavy weather handling, and easy beaching characteristics of the CL16. The rear storage is great, motoring with an Evinrude 4 works great, towing the kids on a sailboard or just letting 'em jump in was always good too.

I purchased a CL16 a couple of months ago to use up at the cottage, and to teach my wife and 6 year old son how to sail. It has been a great success so far!
The boat is very stable, and I have taken a number of beginners out. Within 5 minutes I have had them steering and taking the boat through tacks and gybes. Lots of room to go out for a sail with 2 or 3 people. I also take it out singlehanded and have no problem keeping it under control. I hope to rig it for a spinnaker soon.
I have no regrets and I doubt you will either!

Hello guys:
Great to see the warm acceptance of the CL16. I won't talk more about it. I will talk about the Albacore though.
The Albacore is a great boat, but it is not a boat to learn to sail on. It is fast, and unstable. Of course if you talk to a Albacore sailor of 20 years they will say it is stable because they have sailed it for so long they are used to it. I have been an instructor at a sailing school before with an Albacore in the training fleet and it just was not a good idea. Albacores lack the storage of the CL16 and the "dryness". Also, a new CL16 is far cheaper then the new Albacore. There are more Cl16's used in better shape as well as they are not race horses and will be cheaper for a boat in good shape when compared the Albacore because of the Albacores race status.
Okay, so I lied and I did talk about the Cl16 abit. I hope it helps.
