Hi
I'm looking for a CL in the Ottawa area. I still am not sure if the 14 or the 16 is right for me. It must be easy to step the mast, as I will be launching off a trailer whenever I use it. Mostly I will be sailing with my kids. (Range from 8-13 years of age).
I also heard that the 16 is hard to get back on a trailer sometimes (remember the kids are not that much able to help)
Appreciare your opinions. BTW can a motor mount be rigged on a 14.
My thanks Jimmy

Hi there, and welcome.
My best advice for shopping is to check this site: http://sailquest.com/market/
In particular, view the link to Boats for Sale. There are some CL14's and 16's there!
Don't worry about your kids and retrieving. You'll become pros! My 2 boys, 8 and 10, are very helpful with all aspects my Sandpiper!
Good luck in your search!
Eric,

That's why I bought my CL 14 instead of a CL 16 four years ago. I wanted a lighter boat I could easily handle by myself. (240 lbs vs 360 lbs) My wife is now showing some interest in sailing but won't go out on the 14. That's why I bought the Sandpiper last weekend. Maybe I should hold on to the 14 for this year. If the wife is unreliable, I might be better off selling the 'Piper and using the 14.

Get the Sandpiper fixed up the way you want and you won't want to sell it. It’s a really cool boat. Keep the 14 just for fun. If I had the room I would have two boats, one being like a Cl 16, or a Hobie.

...not meant to rile up the CL-14 owners...but there will always be a very good resale market for CL-16s because of their popularity in Canadian racing fleets. IMHO it's always something to consider when buying any sailing dinghy....will you have a tough time unloading it when you want to move up to something else?

I have had a CL16 for the past 8 years and loading and launching the boat while the kids watch is easy. I am thinking about selling the boat. I'm not in the Ottawa area, I'm down in Rhode Island. Tell me if your interested.
