My CL16 cockpit floor has many small and some maybe large cracks. These appear to be more than gelcoat minor cracking.
QUESTION??????
Would a coating of epoxy be enough to fix this up or should I use fiberglass cloth with the epoxy? Any one with an experience please help me.
I patched the hull with epoxy thickened with sanding dust. I later applied a coat of epoxy to the entire hull. Sanded and painted with Brightsides from Interlux. This turned out quite nice.
I fixed the mast pivot by screwing plaxtic plates over the sides where the bolt hole has been elongated. I inserted brass bushing into the new holes for strenght.

Tom;

I would surmise that you have become quite knowledgable in fibreglass repair. I think you've identified a problem that will only become worse over time. So i would say do the repair to the very best of your ability.

Tom,
I had a similar situation with my CL16, The cracks in the floor seemed worse than just the GelCoat. I also found that the floor felt weak. I put a layer of fiberglass mesh over the entire floor, and 2 liters of polyester resin on it. I was going to use epoxy, but the polyester is much cheaper, and the new layer of floor doesn't really have to adhear to the old floor like it would on the outer hull.
My floor feels much stronger now, and I am confident that the repair will last.

Thanks I was thinking about polyester and glass. I have a little epoxy left from the hull maybe I could cover the polyester with that. Noah's responded that maybe primer and paint would cover it. I think my cockpit floor is more like yours was.
Thanks for the reply
