Hey guys, I was wondering what the best kind of Boat wash is to clean the bottom of my CL. My cottage is in Gravenhurst, Ontario and we're on Gull Lake. The boat stays in all summer so i wanted to know the best wash. I hate the green colour that formes on the bottom and it's no good for racing.
Thanks

Hello:
The best wash for the bottom of your boat, provided it is a older boat is just dish soap and for those tough places some old dutch powder. Of course this is the cheapest way to do it. If you have the extra funds you can buy some Auroa boat wash from Canadian Tire or most marine places. It comes in a kit and works really well.
Don't be afraid to use old Dutch powder on your hull it is almost like wet sanding it and helps those tough places. Also a mild "scrubby" works great too (those rough sponges... not an SOS pad though).
For a good race finish I always used to using rubbing compund and then wash off all water spots before the start, this provided the best finish I think I could have had with a 25 year old CL16. Aquabuff is the best, but its costly ($200 a bucket). Normal compund or even a wax will help just make sure you do not allow the layers to build up and alter hull shape.
If you wanted to prevent the algie from growing (the green color) you could sand down the hull and apply some anti-fouling paint. VC-17 is the best but again, costly - $50.00 a quart. You can find cheaper paint at marine stores and yes, even Canadian Tire. It is usually done to boats which stay in the water for the season.
Sorry for the late reply, we are just now getting time to handle all the web work.
Thanks for the interest,
