I was at my parents place this weekend on Lake Huron just south of Lexington MI and happened to catch a Wayfarer through the binocs. The wind was pretty light on shore and the waves were less than a foot so I'm betting the wind was light out there (600 feet out) too. I saw he had a reef in his mainsail. Is that common on a CL16 as well? How hard does it have to blow before you guys reduce sail space? Also, can anyone tell me how the boat does under main alone? Thanks,

Not common to reef CL16 mainsail. Does well under main alone, good for single handing.

I often sail my CL16 with main only. I also sail solo most of the time. The boat sails well and handles quite nicely. It doesn't point as high as it would with a jib, and of course it is not as fast. The CL16 and Wayfarer are very similar. Both boats are designed to sail most efficiently quite level. At approximately 15 knots the boat starts to hell a lot, this is the time to reef or get a lot of ballast onto the rails to flatten it out. The CL16 allows a trapeze for racing to help keep it level.
I recently put reefing points in my main but have only used them driveway sailing.

I'm so excited to get this thing in the water this weekend. So far the weather reports are looking great. Thanks for the response guys!
