When do you reef the sails? I was in a narrow channel, my first time in my new, used CL-16. Away I went, winds 18 gusting to 35-45km. From what I'm reading the mainsail and jib were a touch to much.Shold I have been running with the mainsail only? What would you use with a steady wind at the different wind speeds. The on line manual refers to reefing/rolling the mainsail. What do you do with the rigging off the boom to the traveler. Any hints would be helpful. The next adventure will be on Great Slave Lake which allows alot more room but very unforgiving. Thanx

If you have a steady wind you can drop the jib and sail with the main. This will cause you to have a lot less ability to point windward. Some may sail with the jib only but I have never tried it. Letting out the sails so they luff would work for a short distances. The flapping will drive you wacko and is not good on the sails.
With center main sheeting you CANNOT roller reef the main on the boom.
You will have to have someone that knows what they are doing put reefing points in the sail. There are several references to various ways in the Wayfarer site.
Let us know how sailing on that BIG lake goes.
We all like to read about adventures with these boats. You have a great sailing craft and it will give you lots of joy in sailing.
Good luck Tom D.
