Well guys I hated to do it but she's out of the water and back on her trailer for the next 7 months. That sounds like such a long time but I know it will go quickly and I'll be back sailing in no time at all. If this note was on paper you'd be able to see the tear stains but they can't be conjured up electronically. It was a good summer, if a little too hot to sail some days, but you know what they say..."Even a bad day sailing is better than a good day at work."

I'm not sure what we'll talk about over the winter except the 'lies' about what great sailors we are but I'm sure there will be a number of topics of interest in the months ahead.

Thanks for listening guys... keep yours in the water as long as you can.

Hey Norman,

We still had 4 boats out racing today at Mississauga sailing club, but one of the Wayfarers managed to snap its rudder in 15 - 17 knots of wind, out of the east so it was bumpy. We will still try to have one more go in two weekends (no races on long weekends), docks in on Oct. 26. I managed to get out 20-25 times over the summer, mostly with my oldest son, 11 years old.
It is a sad time of year when we have to turn our minds to putting our boats away...

Some years ago I lived in Vancouver where I knew a bunch of Star sailors. To help get through the long rainy winter they rented a large warehouse space where they all kept their boats. Once a week and on weekends they would get together and work on their boats. It was a good forum for advice having other sailors around while you paint the hull, move hardware around or build a new tiller (Before the internet). Sometimes other guys would join in and build a boat over the winter (Fireballs and Sabot prams were popular boats of choice).

It wasn't all work. People would just come in and sit in their boats and socialize while they quaffed the occasional refreshing beverage. It was very much like a yacht club. The comradeship was great and the winter flew by.

Still messin about in boats, D'Arcy
