We are contemplating going from a beach launch to mooring our CL 16 this summer.
How do we install an automatic bilge pump system?

Dennis;

A friend of mine in Newfoundland used to keep his CL 16 in the water 6 months at a time. He simply left his drain plugs open and had no problem. Keep in mind though that the boat was kept in salt water which has higher buoyancy than fresh water.

I am also looking at doing the same as you and will most likely cover the boat in its customized boat cover. With my luck something would go wrong with the drain plugs.

What do you plan to use for ground tackle?

I keep mine in a slip at the sailing club and just leave the auto bailers open. For now that has taken care of any rain but I just received my new boom tent so she'll be out of the weather totally. I'll leave the bailers open anyway just in case.

I've found it's best to keep the boat covered to preserve the wood seats and thwart. I give the woodwork an annual cleaning(just a good scrub with a plastic bristle brush and tap water). Then I brush on the teak oil until the wood won't soak up any more. I lay the oil on pretty heavily, wipe off any excess, let it dry for a few hours and then repeat the process two or three times. Keeps the wood looking great and costs me about $12 a season... or whatever the cost of a bottle of teak oil is. The woodwork looks as good as anyones and better than most and it's very easy to keep it looking that way.

I keep mine in the water for the whole summer. I do drag it up on shore and pull the plugs to get anthing in the bilge out. If your centerboard seal is not in good shape you might find that you take on water. I use a mooring cover on it and it does a good job of keeping the rain water out.
