My CL16 is about a 1983 and came with a small motor bracket made of aluminum and pine.

Would anybody know how large of an engine (in weight or h.p.) is appropriate for cruising under power? the wind doesn't blow every day.

thanks

I was thinking of using my 3hp British Seagull on my CL 14.
If I was buying a new motor, I would look at either a Honda or Yamaha 4 stroke 2hp
My critiera would be..reliability, quietness
and lightness in that order.

Hello:

The transom and mount will take a 6 HP, I have SEEN THAT, so if you want to drag race with your motorboat buddies then a 6 is nice. But honestly now, a 2 HP will drive the boat greatly even in a considerable head wind with chop. Remember a boat will only go hull speed easily... which for a CL16 is 5.89 knots and is 5.78 knots. Of course thats DESIGN THEROY... they do do much more.

Hope this helps,

Cody....
what speed could you expect from a Cl 14 in perfect wind conditions.

I would love to pass my buddie's Mirage 33.
His boat should do about 7.5 knots.
