OK everything is ready to christen "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem" Saturday morning but I need one more piece of information. I have a 1970 something 4 horse outboard and I need to know what I should use as far as a mixture ratio. 50:1 32:1??? Thanks so much!

Without knowing which brand your outboard is I can't tell you exactly the ratio. Check on the manufacture's website or go to a dealer. My old '74 Evinrude 6hp took 25:1
My newish (late nineties) Johnson Sailmaster needs only 50:1 Some others may get by with 100:1
So.......do some research and/or tell us the make & model and some outboard guru may answer. Too little oil......dead engine. Too much.....smokey engine....then parhaps dead engine.

Please post whatever you discover. I have the same outboard and the same question. I use 32:1, but I have no idea if it is correct.

I found the correct mix for my 1978 Chrysler 4 horse is 50:1.

My 1954/55 British Seagull 40 series uses 10:1 ratio.
A little blue cloud follows the boat.
There is an article in today's local paper about outboards. The Sierra Club is concerned about the slow conversion to 4 stroke engines. Seems that outboards are selling in equal amounts of 4 vs 2 stroke, but jet ski's are still mostly 2.
