I was wondering if any one out there in the online world has read or can recommend a good book on wiring a small boat? Doesn't have to be too technical as I'm not planning on wiring a large cruiser: (Although I'm sure that would make interesting reading too.) Just the basics to have running lights, interior cabin lights and possibly a few other things like a depth sounder or radio.I'm not too knowledgable on this aspect of sailing as I've spent most of my sailing time in small boats without batteries. However in eager anticipation of owning and messin about in a Sandpiper soon, a good book on wiring, fuses, etc. would make great summer reading. Thanks for your help, D'Arcy

I've got one suggestion from a friend:The 12-Volt Bible for Boats, Seven Seas Press, 1985. Still looking for other suggestions though. D'Arcy

Sorry...nothing from this corner. I've been thinking of taking the Cdn Power Squadron's 'Marine Electronics' course... but haven't done so.

I just borrowed it!*The 12 Volt Bible for Boats* by Miner Brotherton, from the Barrie Library.I've only just skimmed it so far, but it looks like it covers the basics and then some. Wiring a Sandpiper should be straight forward, but it's good to study up on the topic! Cheers, Eric

Thanks guys,I didn't even think about the idea of taking an electronics course. It would be a great thing to do over the Fall or Winter months. A trip to the library is also in order. Totally wired on sailing, D'Arcy

I bought the 12 volt Bible for boats....looked at the (ancient) publishing date, and then bought the "Boatowner's Illustrated Handbook of Wiring" by Charlie Wing. This was recommended to our power squadron's class on Extended Cruising" last spring. I sold the 12 volt Bible to a classmate. I found it to be......kinda basic and not really up to the newest ABYC standards. I have a solar panel on ShortWave and there's lots of interesting stuff to read. Charlie's book was $47.95 from a nautically- minded mail order bookseller in Toronto.------------------ "Never be afraid to try something new: Professionals built the Titanic And amateurs built the Ark." For the past two months (issues), GAM has had articles about wiring... I didn't read them because they didn't really interest me, but it's worth checking out.------------------ Canadian Sailor ;) "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
