Hello! I just recently purchased a 1990 cl 16 the boat included many extra features like the spinnaker, self bailer's etc.. . My question is, do you need special gear in order to reef the mainsail? My instruction booklet described a Reefing Strop to attach the boom vang once the sail is rolled around the boom. What about the block on the boom near the swivel block on the boat, is it also covered when the sail is rolled around the boom? Must I purchase "Reefing on mainsail and boom hardware" from cl" and must I modify my mainsail?
Any Help will be greatly appreciated! Remi

The standard roller reefing you described will not work with center boom mainsheet blocking. The gooseneck must be able to be released so the boom can rotate. The mainsheet must come from the end of the boom to the mainsheet cleat, remove the block at the center of the boom. I had reefing points put into my main so I could rig a jiffy reefing system. Sailing in safe conditions and somewhat protected water you may never need reefing. Tom D.
