Just took my new to me 14 out yesterday and i'm wondering how much tension is supposed to be on the rudder.....the bolt through the rudder is so tight that you have to push the rudder down and it would probably stay down without the shock cord thing on the tiller and i'm not sure that is the way its supposed to be....any suggestions---thanks---Dick

It should be snug but the shock cord it what holds it down. Beaching and hitting submerged objects is the reason for the kickup rudder. It should not float up on its own without the shock cord. That is my experience with several different boats with kickup ruders.

thanks Tom D--i think i'll loosen it some because its so tight that there is no need for the shock cord and it looks like the cast housing is scratching the gelcoat or whatever off the rudder....thanks.....Dick
