Hello all questions questions and still more. I am thinking of taking a small trip out to an island for a weekend..
has anyone had experiance with beaching a Sandpiper as the island we plan to go to has no inlets or coves if the weather turns bad while were there - or should I store a large ancor and stay of shore for the nights . The beach area is very sandy ?
It was no problem when I had the CL14 but this ones a bit bigger, heavier etc.

I have had my 'piper up on the beach many times. Sand is good. Gravel is not so good, especially if there is some wave action and the boat rocks on the abrasive surface.

I usually pull into the beach bow first. But, I have also dragged the boat up stern first. This may have been more practical for boarding/unboarding. There may be a European name for this type of beaching (but it sounds pornographic).

In either case, consider tying off to something on shore or drop an anchor up the beach.

Do it!

If you have any anti-fouling paint on the bottom some of it it will be scuffed off by the sand and wave action when aground. Sand in the threaded nut on the keel will possibly getinto the thresads of the nut and leasdscrew with deleterious effects to the lubricant.

I'd say throw a bow anchor out into deeper water, and take a stern line to a rock or tree onshore. That'll keep the bow into the breaking beach waves and ease the motion of the boat at night.

Thank you still not sure what to do I just purchased the SPipier and dont really know that much about how it handels or its little quirks but so far its been a great ride - mind you I have only been in the bay with light winds & no wave action...but the trip to the island will be out in open waters ( Lake Superior ).
Can you tell me at what wind speed things get tricky or dangerous - Not exper... with larger boats use to a cl14 & Sunfish.
I would take the Sunfish out in anything without fear but the SPiper would hold more water if its knocked over in a big wave or down draft - both common where I sail.

Around here, we would have tide action to consider. (approx 4-5 feet)
I would anchor a safe distance from the beach allowing for swing if the wind changed.
Don't forget to run out enough rode for a 7:1 ratio...
that is lengh of rode including chain vs depth of water + freeboard.
