Anyone have or know of a Sandpiper with a dodger? I'm considering getting one but not sure how practical it would be for this small boat. If I do get one I would want to make sure that it looks and fits properly. Im in Northern Ontario so I'm looking for a good supplier who has made one for this specific boat and has the pattern. I imagine that they would probably need a boat to final fit it so not sure how that would work out. I E-mailed Genco two weeks ago but so far no answer.

Is it that cold & windy where you sail? I didn't like the dodger on the Mirage 33 I crewed on. It was hard to see forward if you were sitting forward in the cockpit. I did appreciate it on our October sails.

I'm in Sault Ste Marie. It can get be cool here in the spring and fall. The water is pretty cold even now.I sail a lot on Whitefish bay (Superior) and the St. Marys River System. I haven't been past St Joseph Island and into the North Channel yet but hopefully next year. I've been at the wheel of a 31 footer with a dodger and found it OK to see thru and around. But thats a big difference from a Sandpiper. In the Sandpiper you would also be able to look over it when standing. I keep the boat at marinas so a dodger would also give me a little more cabin privacy and shelter.

Hey 2short. Genco dodgers are nice, but they're going to make it like they would on a 35footer! 1" stainless, all stainless fittings etc etc. I got an off the cuff price from them once while he was down measuring another boat, and he wanted ~$2k IIRC. I would think it could be made, and be suitable with alumminum tubing. Not sure if they'll do that. Around Barrie/Huronia there are loads of boat top places, Omars in Barrie comes to mind. It'll be custom job, I'm sure, so if you can, take your boat to the shop you find. Personally, I want a bimini. The sun is brutal, even when the air is cool. I would design it so as to incorporate a dodger after, if its practical to do so. Hopefully, I'll have one for next season!Eric

Eric..when I was scouting the French boat sites in Quebec, I saw a Sandpiper with a type of custom bimini. It's probably only good while at anchor/mooring. Appeared to be a rectangular piece of canvas held aloft in centre by halyard. It seemed fairly flat.

Very good Fred. That's the exact boat I was talking about. It was for sale at an inflated price but the guy dropped it to $ 5900.00 before it sold.

Island Canvas on Queens Quay did a nice boat top for our cottage powerboat. They also do biminis, dodgers and boat covers for boats of all sizes. They would need your boat for a day to custom fit the work. They will also give you a discount price if you order it over the winter. D'Arcy

OK thanks. I'll check them out. Still not sure if I want to drive 8hrs towing the boat tho. Maybe I'll learn to sew this winter. Fred
