It looks like this is the place for information about my Sandpiper 565, acquired 2 years ago.

I just washed my boat... got water in stern locker. I pulled the drain plug located at the bottom of the forward bulkhead in stern locker. The water did not exit the boat!? Any ideas where it went and how I can drain it properly? I suspect it entered the buoyancy compartment adjacent the bulkhead. What is the drain plug for?

Any wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks.

Alf

Hi Alf and welcome!
Not sure about your dilemma. I don't have a drain *plug* in my aft lazerette. I have a thru-hull draining water via a rubber hose from the cockpit floor. In my case, if water gets into the lazerette, it had better stay there until I bale or mop it up. This area should be water tight (reasonably).
Other owners have installed bilge pumps here as an extra measure of security.Perhaps the previous owner of your boat installed the drain plug as his extra precaution.
I would suggest you climb into the lazerette and give all the seams along the bulhead a thorough inspection. It's cramped, but I'm 6', 185# and I got in (and out). Also check your through hulls and hoses from all 3 cockpit drains to make sure water isn't entering through leaky fittings.
Hope this helps.

Cheers, Eric
