Well today I got my new sandpiper boat hull# 567 into the water. I hope its a small learning curve from the CL14.
Any and all tricks and quirks anyone has found would be appreciated. I have found she takes longer to turn, stop ect already .
I am hopeing that she will make my sailing around Gouais Bay and Lake Superior more enjoyable for the wife. She may even go with me now.

I have been sailing my Sandpiper for a short while, and have found several.... quirks. I have found it does not handle too well in light air. Not sure if there is something I haven't figured out yet, but it really does not point close to the wind in light air. Also it really likes to be heeled, and I routinely sit on the leeward side in light air to heel the boat a bit. Finally, in my experience, buying a Sandpiper does not entice your wife to sail with you.

Did you say moving up to a Sandpiper won't guarantee the wife will crew?
This is something I'm going through now.
I figured bigger boat, more comfortable seats (vs the CL14) would make her happy.
As I think about it, she seems most comfortable on a good size motor boat.

My wife loves the Sandpiper. Thinks it looks cute. (I prefer jaunty.)

We've sailed Lasers and International 14's together. To quote my wife: "I think we've reached an age now where a boat with seats, cooler and a head are in order." She said this as we were going through waves in a Laser (15 to 20 knots wind). I agree; we're just not bending as well as we used to diving under the boom.

Sacrificing speed for comfort, D'Arcy
