We just arrived home from the Sandpiper 565 Rendezvous 2005. It was a great success. The people, the marina, the anchorage, the 19 knot winds, the new ideas, the fun, the food. Did I mention the people? Everyone got along extremely well. In attendance were 7 Sandpipers in all, alphabetically: Duchess II (elmet3 - Detroit), Paradise (Eric - Barrie), Puffin (Gerry - Milton), Sapphire (SuperPiper - Peterborough), Shortwave (D'Arcy - Toronto), Wind Chime (Pathfinder - Orangeville), and Windy Island (Windy - Ottawa). and all their crews, whom we'll see shortly, I'm sure. BTW, 29.4% of the event was made up of youth. Way to go guys/gals! There will be lots of outstanding photos coming, and equally wonderful tales. The group was so enthusiastic about a return event that they decided on the spot for a future Rendezvous in 2006: DATE: Arrival: Friday, August 4, 2006 - 1800h Cruise: Saturday, August 5 - 1000h Regatta: Sunday, August 6 - 1400h Banquet: Sunday, August 6 - 1800h PLACE: Gananoque ON and The Thousand Islands I'll be thanking Tom Oleksiuk, Owner of CL Sailboat Shop, and Cody Cote, his sales manager, more formally later, but I want to acknowledge them for their support and assistance in pulling off this rendezvous, and for giving us these wonderful sailboats.
There is so much more to share, but right now I need to sit down to finish off a left-over 1 1/4" thick pig steak - spiced, and roasted to perfection. mmmmm Thanks, Honey. Thanks, everyone. [This message has been edited by Pathfinder (edited August 01, 2005).]

Wow...next years location would shave 1000 km off a round trip for me. (3000 rather than 4000km) Looking better all the time.

Great to hear it was a success!!!, Too bad it wasn't closer to the east coast! If I still have my Piper next season, maybe I'll try to make it up. Were there any onlookers enquiring about any used Sandpipers for sale??? hahahahaha ------------------ Rob Belliveau 1976 Sandpiper 565 "CoolBreeze" Halifax NS Dartmouth Yacht Club

Here is a teaser of the photos from Sapphire:
As Danielle mentioned, we are moving from the 30,000 islands this year to the 1,000 islands next year. Sapphire's crew echo the other posts. Thanks a H-of-a-lot, Stan. You got this rendezvous from conception to conclusion. But, are we the first to thank Darlene? A lot of work and a great meal. Sapphire will be back next year!

I think Superpiper got the postcard shot from the beach! That needs to be your theme picture for next year. Congratulations all on your great rendezvous. I think there are many one design class sailors like me that envy what you people were able to do.Roger Conrad Sail la Vie O'Day Daysailer II

Denis, You can get anything you want at Sandpipers Restaurant. I love the photo looking out from the beach. I think this is the only time Windy Island was in front all weekend lol. BTW, you got us humming that song trying to remember the next line.

That is indeed a Super Photo Super Piper. I believe we were just starting to raft up when you took that shot. A lot of photos were taken that evening.

Looks like you all had a fantastic time in Parry Sound. Lynn and I will definitely plan to attend next year in Thousand Islands. For sure the mother ship will be able to make it there without the impediment of any intravening locks along the route. Silverheels III will even be sporting a modernized mast next year. The total re-rigging work has been painfully slow......we hope to install it this Friday. ------------------ "Never be afraid to try something new: Professionals built the Titanic And amateurs built the Ark."

Yes, ShortWave couldn't have found a better new home than with D'Arcy's family on Lake Rosseau. He's got loads of sailing experience and will have lots of fun in her.

Chased by heavy storm clouds, Shortwave easily takes a gust approaching 20 knots.
