Sandpiper 565 Rendezvous 2006Reading all the posts on every subject under the sun the last few months gets me all stoked up for our S565 Rendezvous in August. Did you see the nice announcement on page 4 of May's issue of GAM? Good work Eric. To register, simply print the Registration Form near the top of this thread, or email me for an e-brochure (since we don't have a webpage ); then surface mail it filled out with your cheque. We're all anticipating a great time sailing as a fleet again among the beautiful Thousand Islands near Gananoque. compasspoints@hotmail.com Stan "Wind Chime"

It's June 1. Sandpiper sailors from all over are sheeting in for our gathering of the clan in Gan in August. Rendezvous provides adventure, great sailing under a certain amount of flotilla protection, tips on just about any topic of sailing, social interaction, succulent food, and loads of fun for the whole family, all in a relaxed, informal atmosphere, and at a very affordable cost. photo: Sandpiper 565 fleet in Parry Sound 2005, courtesy Ab B (Windy Island) Join us for Rendezvous 2006 in the magnificent Thousand Islands. See above posts for details. Send your registration today.

Hi Stan:Would you mind running over how one obtains a mooring? As I understand it, once you've registered you've got a space. Is that correct? Thanks, D'Arcy (I'm getting older and my mind wanders) Shortwave

Right, d'Arcy. At the end of June when all the registrations are in, I will notify both Trident and Pinecrest of hard(er) numbers coming. Trident will set aside slips for us, as close together as possible from the slips vacated for the weekend, and Pinecrest will allocate an area to park our rigs. This procedure is different from last year, but the organizations are different. Early in July, I'll post concise instructions for arrival, for anyone who might need them. To the fleet at large: Come join the fun in the Thousand Islands. Copy a Registration Form from an early post in this thread; or email for an e-brochure. compasspoints@hotmail.com

Sandpiper Rendezvous registration deadline of June 30 is rapidly approaching. This date gives us some time to: a) keep our hosts well informed; b) order/obtain delivery of t-shirts and other stuff without straining our relationship with the people who make them; and c) allows us time to sail the North Channel and be in good humour before the Rendezvous. Please register by June 30. Thanks.

We were talking about motorhome parking and for me camping. I'll get there on Friday in time to regester. So Friday night all weekend and leave on Monday. I need to find out if I can Camp there. And while I don't need hook ups, it would be nice. Do you need to call or can I. I have a 31' Motorhome. Rexhall Aerbus. And of course a sailboat trailer. Sid

Hi Sid,It was great talking with you on the phone moments ago. I'm glad we were able to check out your concerns, and solve our long-standing email non-function situation. I should be able to post firmer numbers for the Rendezvous in just a few days, then get working on the t-shirt order, contact with Trident, and other details. There's still time (minutes) to mail your registrations, guys and gals. We're all looking forward to another great time this summer. Stan

It was nice to put a voice to what has been just a message on a sailing forum. We should all have a good time, and i'm being forced to take a much needed vacation. Sid

Hi Stan, I can't attend this year because I am just learning to sail this summer and bought my Sandpiper a few weeks ago. Is there a newsletter or a contact to receive this info for the next time? I would like to be kept up to date with this meet so that I can see about next year. Thx Johanne

Hi, Johanne, Welcome to the fleet.Probably the best place to keep informed of the Sandpiper 565 Rendezvous is right here on the CL Forum. After the Rendezvous, there are lots of pictures and stories shared here. Next year, the event likely will be advertised on a thread just like this one. We also have a brochure that Tom hands out at the Toronto Boat Show in January, and mails out with orders he receives at CL headquarters in Fort Erie, ON. And we receive publicity in GAM magazine. I can email you an e-brochure in January when it comes out. The Rendezvous is for all levels of ability and interest. There is a good percentage of women and of kids. Everybody is most gracious and gets along very well. You are going to enjoy what you'll be able to do with your little yacht. We'd love to sail with you at the Rendezvous. Congratulations, and welcome aboard.

With regards to next year maybe you folks could consider Halifax as there seem to be quite a few 'Piper's here AND we're expecting the Tall Ships again next summer. I know that I'm hoping to sail my CL 16 along the waterfront for that event.------------------ Robert Celtic Kiss #2120

OK, Stan. If there is room for me, I would like to sign up for the rendezvous. I know I must send in the registration, but given the late date I thought I had better give you a heads up. Have you put out a list of attendees? I will arrive Wednesday and stay at the marina Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Anchoring out Saturday. I'll send you a check.

Don't know if that will help you much. I believe D'Arcy said he'd be at the Shark sailing championships on the Rendezvous weekend.

True, whited, racing at this year's Rendezvous may be just as tricky as last year. We likely won't be able to count on anybody getting the keel caught in a marker rode again. Amazing or other "dipstarts" no doubt will be disapproved. Stacking Duchess II's crew may work. Or Dennis may have to deploy Sapphire to the task. Vigorous lobbying of the Race Committee to implement one-design rules and measures (to level the fleet to my particular basic équipage) will continue to effect arid results. I dunno, guys, we may be totally out-positioned, on and off the course: we all know who is strategically placed as Race Captain (entire Committee even!) Hmm, perhaps I could entice Shortwave's crew to accept an invitation aboard Wind Chime to lead a racing tutorial. [This message has been edited by Pathfinder (edited July 17, 2006).]

D'Arcy:On the eve of the NOOD regatta in Toronto, Rodney Smith of Graffiti picked me up as crew for a Thursday night Shark race at RCYC. One design racing is exciting. I had only ever raced PHRF and had seldom experienced a mark rounding with the entire fleet in contact. There was yelling and shouting . . . Rodney is a keen competitor. He should typically finish in the low single digits at the Worlds.

It will be terrific to see you there Arthur. You can be the rabbit.Just spent way too much money on new tires for the trailer so Shortwave is ready to go. (I could have bought a geniker that money but road safety is important.) Worlds are next week so we'll be heading down to the Thousand Islands after the worlds. Denis; Rodney is an excellent Shark sailor. We go into these things to learn from guys like this. It's just my opinion, but one-design racing is the best way to hone your sailing skills. Even if you're a cruising type you might consider crewing on a racing boat for a few weeks. Your boat maneuvering would vastly improve. Maybe some year our Rendezvous races will look like this. (Stan would be the red boat with his dip start technique.) See you in August, D'Arcy Shortwave
