Hello All,

My local sailmaker confirm that the extra sail I recieved when I purchased my sandpiper was a DRS.

I will never fly this sail so I have decided to sell it and give the members of this forum first right of refusal.

The sail dimensions are as follows:

Luff 22'-9"
Leech 19'-10"
Foot 13'-10"

The sail is in excellent condition and comes with the turtle (see attached pictures) and the blocks that you mount onto the cockpit combing.

I must confess that I do not know if this is the sail for our boats (CL didn't have the dimensions for a DRS) but it is the one that came with the boat when I purchased her.

From what I can tell, you would have to mount an extra block further up the mast than what CL says in the manual for a spinnaker.

If you are interested please e-mail me for pricing and more pictures.

Patrick, I am down the road in Brandon. What is your straight line distance from the tack to the head on your DRS? Secondly what is the dimension of the head to midfoot? I know you gave the luff dimension of 22' 9" but assumed this was following the luff line.

Finally do you know the cloth weight?

My e-mail is roger02 at mts dot net substituting at and dot for the obvious of course.

Hello Roger,

All distances I mentioned are straight line and not following the curve. I will try to get the midpoint distance for you later today if I can, if not it would not be until Wednesday (I go away tomorrow on business). Please remember this is not a spinnaker but a Drifter, Reacher.

The sail cloth weight is very light (I think 3/4 oz Nylon). This sail is for very light airs.

Thanks Patrick. That's how I would use it, but my mast top to stemhead measure (luff) I calculate at 22.56. So if your luff is 22.75 it is 3 inches too long no matter how I attached it, unless I use the whisker pole to extend the tack past the stemhead. I would rather avoid this. Are you sure you don't have the leech and luff measures reversed? I would have thought the luff (front edge) would be the shorter measure at 19' 10". If that is the case, I could use it, although I would have to add a mast head block, halyard and cleat for it, (not a major issue). My spkr is .5 oz and I didn't want anything too much heavier, so .75 sounds great. I got left behind on the lake last year in light airs with similar sized boats flying larger headsails, so I thought a light air drifter may be the ticket. My spkr block is 15' 6" up the mast so that is too low to attach a DRS. Let me know what you find out, and your price.

Hello Roger,

According to my local sailmaker the sail can be flow either way (I've never heard of this but I've only flown one once before). The curvature of the sail seems to be the same on each side when pulled tight.

That's what I kinda thought. What's your price? I'd send you a cheque in the mail and would expect you to hang on to the sail until the cheque cleared. Assume that you would put it on the bus and I would pay COD charges for the transport.
