Took possession of Ranger truck this morning on a three year lease. Option to buy out at end if I like the truck.
Kept old mini-van for wife & son.

Black tonneau cover for bed and step bars to come in a week or so. (re free $1k accessory deal). I also won $500.00 in their 'Lets Make a Deal' promotion.

Looks like you are planning to tow a larger boat.

No plans for a larger boat.
The problem is getting something rated for at least 2000 lbs minimum without needing brakes on the trailer.
I tried the new V6 RAV4 but still found it a bit small..especially in the back seat for the $31,200.00 price.
The Sienna van was beautiful.. drove great..
but at this stage (both boys gone) did I really want a vehicle that big.
Not usually fussy about Fords... but the recent promotion seemed the cheapest way to get into a 2nd vehicle that could haul the 'Piper around.
At the end it wasn't all that cheap.
Still reached $300.00 monthly payments.

I have an 94 Ranger XLT with 4 litre motor, and 5 speed manual transmission. The top pulling capacity is rated at 1400# for this transmission. I understand for an automatic however it is 3500#. Can you check you manual and let me know what it states there for pulling capacity. It is time for a trade in soon, and although I love my truck as is, it could have more pulling power. The reality is that its resale/tradein value will drop significantly if I hang on to it too much longer.

I have had Ford trucks for about 12 years now. Good Trucks. I now have a 98 F250 with the 5.4. It will pull the Boat to the Top of the Pass, 11,000 feet at 70 miles MPH if I want.

Good job, Don. "Ford - built for the road ahead." You're all set for care-free touring through our beautiful eastern freedom vistas this summer. Your combined rig will turn lots of heads.

Roger:
It's a bit confusing.
In advertising, I've seen the Ranger with auto and 3.0 V6 rated at 3500 lbs.
The Owner's Guide says my 4x2 SuperCab with 3.0 liter V6 and auto transmission is rated to tow a max. of 2440 lbs. Either way, I'm safe with the Sandpiper.
I plan to use the step bumper to mount my 7/8" ball. It's rated for a tongue weight of 200 lbs. and a max gross trailer weight of 2000 lbs. This saves me the expense of installing a Class 2 hitch.

Hello,

Have you ever weighed the boat/trailer and accessories? I keep meaning to track down a place to do that. I would have thought it would be pushing 2000 lbs.

I was wondering also.
There aren't near as many weigh stations as there used to be, although there is one out by our airport. (Highway officers seem to use portable scales more often)
We also have them at the garbage transfer stations, but I don't think I'd want to take my 'Piper there. No place for a lady!

Got my new Ranger back yesterday.
The dealer fixed a paint flaw on the driver's side door and installed my freebies...........
the tonneau cover & step bars I chose as my no charge $1k worth of accessories.
I'm starting to think this little truck isn't so bad looking now......

Thanks Sid

Now if only there was a choice between those pretend bolt-on fender flares and something better.....
