Hello people,

I was wondering if anybody has any information on where to buy a used Code 40 boat. I am located in Manitoba and know nothing about sail boats. My wife used to instruct in a Code 40 so I would like to get her one for this summer. What would a boat like this cost? What can I look for before buying?I know these may be pretty silly questions but any help that I could get would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much

I bought a used '92 Code 40 summer before last for $2,500 including the trailer. The boat and sails were in very good condition. I have enjoyed it for two seasons now and can hardly wait to get it out again this year. I would love to share stories with your wife. I had been thinking I was the only one who had ever sailed one of these.

Hello Rob;

You actually ask a pretty loaded question. First of all, I would suggest that you look in "Boat For Sale Magazine" and/or "Gam on Yachting" Magazine. Both are excellent resources for the used boat market. You could also look in your local newspaper and in an RV trader publication.

As to what to look for. Check for structural deficiencies such as gouges in the hull, loose fittings, inspect the sails and rigging (Halyards & Shrouds). If all looks well and is in workable order, I'd go for it. If you have any maintenance questions or cleaning tips, just post it on the board and we'd love to help. But if your wife is a former instructor, she will probably know most of the answers before you even know what the questions are.

Best of Luck and Have fun with your new boat.

Robert
