I plan to try some camp cruising with the CL16 next summer.
Having redone the hull and cockpit sole, I also fixed the starboard chainplate. While doing this I found the foam in the side wall WET. I removed the old foam from both sides and tried to refill with strips of new foam.
I will put in a removalable plate in each sidewall where I pulled the old foam out.
I have enlarged one of the forward bulkhead access holes, I can now crawl into the foredeck.
I found a canvas shop that will sew a window in my genoa. I have to take the old one in for a sample. I also need to put in reefing into my mainsail. I found some good info on the Wayfarer site. If I show this to the shop they will try to fix up my mainsail.
Now I bought a big CHEAP poly tarp and am attempting to build a boom tent. If it works out I will use it as a guide for the canvas shop, I think ripstop nylon would be best. On one of the home boat builders site I found general instructions to make a genoa reefing system from plastic pipe. Maybe I will try that.
Big problem is that I spend the winters in Florida and don't have a workshop there.
A little work befor I leave and some in the spring.
Good sailing to all.
OH ya I am sailing this weekend with a nephew. We have a 33 GibSea bareboat chartered for Grand Traverse Bay in NorthWest Michigan. Only the two of us for 2 days and an overnight. I will let you know how it went. This is my first trip of this kind.

Tom;

I'll be curious to know how you do with the boom-tent. Have fun sailing with your nephew.

Boom tent is one of my winter projects too!
a friend at work gave me a piece of canvas that he had made for his Rhodes 19.
it is almost 9' long and 6' wide it has a 6' wooden spar at each end to suspend from the boom and 1' long flaps that run down each side.
My boat is not here for me to measure but I think it is long enough.
I plan to cut the spars in the middle to allow me to form a peak and secure the flaps along the gunwale (bungees?)
then all I need to do is figure out a way to close in the ends to keep the weather out!
He told me that the material is a treated form of canvas specially designed for dodgers on sailboats.
to top it off he also included a nice compass still in the box.
Can't wait till next season to really try this out.
