Here are some classic pictures from the CL Archives of the building of a Sandpiper S565 in the C&L Boatworks,Waterhouse and May Ltd. facility in 1974-75. We are happy to share this bit of history with our dedicated S565 sailors!

Enjoy,

Dave

Amazing photos. These definitely answer a lot of questions about the design and assembly of our boats.

There is a possibility that Sapphire, sail # 123 (1974), is somewhere in these photos. She is not the boat in the 2nd photo: the mast tabernacle is very tall compared to Sapphire's.

The decks and cabintops are gleaming with fresh gelcoat. But the hulls seem very dull. Were the hulls finished AFTER the final assembly?

Most excellent photos. Thanks folks. They are very much appreciated.

Fantastic!! Neat to see how our fine little boats were put together.

Classic Pictures Indeed

As an S565 owner, and family history researcher, I find it meaningful how these pictures from 1974-5, historical documents, contribute to the distinction and recognition of the S565 .

They reawaken hopes for renewed production.

Thanks yet again, CL,

Actually if you look at the sandpiper photos in the Sandpiper Owners Manual, (sails number 113 and 119) have the newer style lower height mast base / tabernacle.

My Sandpiper has the orginal taller one.

There is so much more history and stories about sandpipers that have yet to be told about a boat that is fun to sail and that can surprisingly can take a far bit of abuse (wind, waves, wear and tear) as back in those days there were built more roboust (heavy duty, due to lower technology, tools and materials).

Its a boat that will still be around for awhile yet.
