Someone mentioned that they had a batch of new larger s/s backing plates made up to strengthen fittings. I wonder what thickness and size they were. i need one for my port shroud padeye. i have stress cracks and i can hear a low crunching sound as I fiddle with it. I checked underneath and see the paint flaking off where the small backing plate fits. I'm hoping a couple pieces of mattiing c/a epoxy and a bigger plate will strengthing it.

I should mention..I'm not scrounging for one. I'll get a local fabricator to make some up.

I had visible cracking also.
I used a 10" length of 2"x2"x1/4" aluminum angle with two holes drilled in it. I bedded the angle to the underside of the deck with epoxy to distribute the load evenly.
Maybe a little overkill.

If the fitting pulls out now...there goes the side of your boat :-)
I'm using a 4" x 6" flat piece of 1/4" aluminum for my port shroud padeye. I also layered two pieces of fibreglass mat with resin to strengthen the deck from underneath.
Now I'll take my gelcoat 'kit' and try to make the stress lines disappear.
