I am looking to buy a late 70's CS27 and am looking for some advice from
current owners or someone with experience. I have heard that the 8hp Yanmar Single Cylinder is ok on
flat water, however it struggles when faced with wind and waves. 8 hp does seem a little optimistic for 7000 lb boat. Does anyone have any advice. Thanks!

The skipper I crewed with owned a Viking 28 before he moved up to the Mirage 33.
He had a single cylinder Renault diesel..but can't remember the hp.
That darn thing seemed rough and boy, could you feel/hear it when cruising at certain rpms.
The two cylinder Yanmar was much smoother.

I've sailed on my Buddy's CS27 many a times before he sold it for a bigger boat. All I can say is they are excellents sailboats and are very sturdy. The 8hp yanmar does a wonderful job in both calm and rough waters. We were in a race a few years back that took us across big traverse in Lake of the Woods (When in the middle you can't see land)and she sailed well with the 5-6 foot wave condition and when the race ended we had to motor the rest of the way about a mile in the same conditions to get to Warroad, MN.

The CS27 is a very sound and stable boat that would last you many a year to come. When my buddy sold it and went up to a Mirage 33 his wife couldn't store all the stuff they had in the CS27. The only down side I found with the boat is that she doesn't like light winds.
