I found this from another post but I don't understand what a UBB code is.

"Hey guys,
You can post pictures. It is in the UBB Code. Click on the UBB code. The FAQ says that pictures can not be attached to be downloaded (it would make the board reallllllllllly slow).

If anyone could be so kind as to explain this in laymans terms (read:compooter illiterate) that would really help me out.

well that's just the point of this post. I don't know who made this boat. from what I've found on the interent CL was the closest I could find to this. All I know is that it was bought on the side of the road near Wiarton Ontario.
I did get some new rigging for the centreboard up/downhaul and a 4:1 purchase on the mainsail, which I'm excited to install this long weekend.

In addition, on a Dingy this size do you think a Kicker(Vang)would be advantageous or is the sail small enough that one would not be neccessary and just overkill?

thanks.

Hello and Welcome, Alix -

I have a CL-14 that was built in the early 80s. The photo that was posted of your boat does not resemble my boat in the least. I believe the CL-14s are all fiberglass hulled, and my boat has a mainsail, a jib, and a narrow bench that runs around the perimeter of the cockpit (as opposed to having to sit on the gunwales.)

Could this be a CL-11 (or whatever the smaller CL boat is called?)

Hope this helps,
Christy in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

You're right Christie. My 1985 CL 14 had the moulded in fibreglass seats. A couple of years back I went out and made measurements of my 14 stem to stern and posted them here, trying to compare my cockpit to a CL 16.
If the original poster wanted them, he'd have to search...or find a 'real live' CL 14 to measure. Cody hasn't updated this site yet to include the history of the CL 14...so a person might have to contact him to get early information on the first 14s.

Hey thanks for your help. Well I'm not sure its a CL, in fact I have no idea who it was made buy. It does have a Jib (not pictured) and is 14 feet Bow to Stern.

As most or all boats made in the last 20-30 years are all fiberglass I am assuming that since this boat is wooden this boat hull was made in the 60's, which If i'm not mistaken was what CL's were made like
"in the beginning"

thanks for your help

Unless you only plan to sail on light wind days, I'd strongly recommend a vang, even on a boat this small.

Leave it slack when the wind is light or when you're going downwind. When the wind picks up and you need to hike out, tighten the vang. This will hold the boom down, keeping the sail flat and make the boat much more well-behaved.

Without a vang, easing the sheet will cause the boom to rise and make the sail fuller. This is *not* what you want to happen when a puff hits.

Hey Townsend thanks a lot.

You know that was an excellent explanation of the vang and it's purpose, thanks.

I was thinking a 4:1 fiddle would be enough and fit in there nicely.

would you agree?

There's an article in this month's (September) Sail magazine on mainsail twist, mainsail shape in different winds, reading telltales, etc. Page 32 in the "Tips From The Top" column.

This one is generally geared to smaller boats.
