My sailing season is over KatieAnnis put away for the winter. I have several think about projects for her. #1 A better arraignment for the jib downhaul. I currently have a line that runs from the head of the jib down through the hanks half way. I have the line run to the clew and back on the opposite side of the sail to the hanks and down to the tack. The line is run back to the cockpit. To operate, I pull on the jib downhaul as release the halyard. Problem is that the line doesn't glide smoothly as the sail is reduced and pinches up. My original system did not pass back to the clew and the sail would droop in the water when it was down. I would like to build a roller furling system from PVC that I got from a ComPac site. Problem, can I build it so that it is easily adjusted for trailering. Some measuring and in garage tinkering should give a good answer. #2 Clutter of big & small lines on the boom. I also have my genny pole, spinnaker boom attached to the main boom. Close to the mast I have two large eyes. In front of the mainsheet block I have a large loop on each side. I slide a pole through each loop and attach the snap to an eye. Main outhaul This is a problem because the line hangs down and sometimes get tangled with other lines. Topping Lift This is a similar problem as the outhaul. I can shorten the line so when it is released it has no loose line. When used the boat is not moving and line is not a problem. Good idea tommy. Jiffy reefing This line hangs loose also but only when reefed. This can cause problems when reefed due to the line hanging and and the boat needing extra tending to. Main/Jib sheets Not a serious problem I coil it up on the sole and keep one hand on it. The jib sheets are not a problem as I tie them together and they also are forward of the other lines. Boom Vang Again not a problem. This is farther forward than the other lines and sheets. I have a lot of clutter with lines in the cockpit and sailing solo it gets a little hectic. My crew has problems because they are not used to a lot of lines and occasionally get the wrong one. #3 Build a lazy jack system that can be used easily on a trailer sailed CL16. Can a L/J system be built for a small boat and be somewhat easy to rig from a trailered boat. I hope so.
#4 Spinnaker Use: This will require a lot of practice by me and any crew I find. Oh well a lot of pondering and planning for this old dude. Maybe I will get some of it done. Good sailing tom d
