Our club has recently acquired a used CL-16 and I'm suspicious that the rudder that came with the boat is not a normal CL-16 rudder. - It's swept back about 30 degrees which makes for a *lot* of weather helm in higher winds - I had it out in 15kts the other day and I'd describe it as borderline unsailable.I switched it out for another rudder (homemade, but no sweep) and the difference was night and day - the boat was a joy to sail. Since I've never seen a stock CL-16 rudder I don't know if the swept-back rudder that came with the boat is a stock one or not. Is it normal for a CL-16 to have that much sweep to the rudder? I'd prefer to just buy a new rudder from CL, but I don't want to buy another instance of the one I've got. Thanks. IP: 141.211.30.228 |

i've seen Cody say the rudders for the CL 16 & CL 14 are the same. Did you have the bungie pulled tight for sailing vs the beaching mode?IP: 156.34.95.100 |

The rudder downhaul was as tight as possible. The problem is that the rudder itself doesn't go all the way vertical. IP: 141.211.30.228 |

The rudders for the 14 and 16 are the same. They are swept back. I turned mine backwards and drilled a new pivot hole when I raced 16's. As long as you are not longer then 42" incl. the head you are within class rules. There is also a "normal" up and down rudder that is available. It is not in production yet as we are still working out the kinks... Cheers, IP: 24.150.223.225 |

Thanks for your prompt reply. By "available" do you mean that we could send you a cheque and you would ship one to us?I would definitely prefer a vertical rudder to one that's swept back.
