Hello.....I'm interested in knowing if anyone has measured thier speed, (using a GPS or anyother way), and how fast they've gone, and under what condions, with thier CL16.

I recently clocked about 5.5 mph using a GPS with the main sail reefed and no jib. It was quite rough conditions and we depowered as much as possible in an attempt to keep things safe. Still managed a nice clip. We got up to around 6.5 mph the next day with both sails up but much less wind and waves. Unfortunately, I don't really have a feel for a top speed, yet.

Do you have a 'measured mile' as indicated on a chart, in your area. That is one way to determine your speed. In the Cdn Power & Sail Squadron classes we used the formula 60Dst.
D = distance
s = speed
t = time
you will have your distance (1 mile)
time from your
chronograph (watch)

Best speed I've seen on my GPS in a broad reach under main and jib is a little over 7 knots. I suspect I've done a bit better on other occations when my GPS wasn't handy.
A couple of weekends ago, I watched some of the top Wayfarers do planing reaches with the chute up at what must have been around 10 knots.
