I have tried to fabricate a boom crotch for my CL16. I have not had much luck being able to hold it in place securely. I have been thinking of trying a topping lift. Does anyone have any input as to which is the better way to go and how to rig it best. Thanks------------------ TWater IP: 152.163.101.13 |

Hi there,I just put a little d clip at the top of the mast and put another swivel plate on the end of the boom(i have roller furling), then tied a line between the two and there is the topping lift. Works great for me(keeps the boom up while faffing with the sail or just motoring around, you can also then put a tent fly over the boom for shade too), Cloud NineIP: 70.48.42.205 |

Cloud nine...I have a question. Once your main is raised, what do you do with the end of the topping lift that is attached to the boom?------------------ TWater IP: 64.12.117.13 |

If you tie the topping lift to the boom using a tautline hitch as an adjustable loop, you will be able to get slack in it for sailing.IP: 207.200.159.161 |

Just use one ot the cleats on the mast and adjust the height of the boom from there. Fast and easy.Sid IP: 207.200.116.203 |

Cloud, I've never heard of the verb "faff." Is that a word or a typo?------------------ Kevin Shortstay III, #901 IP: 198.115.167.28 |

I made my topping lift by Attaching a line from the top of the mast and running it through the small loop at the aft end of the boom. I put a cleat a short distance forward. I have a loop in the line and slip it through the eye and over the horns. It now will stay in place. To use the lift I raise the boom to the desired height and put hitches over the horns to lock it in place. While sailing I release the hitches and the lift stays in place loosely. I also must cleat the mainsheet tight when the lift is being used. Tom D. CL 16 # 438 IP: 205.188.117.73 |
