Hi all,I was sailling my CL16 alone last weekend in 15-20 kts winds. It was fast and fun, especially since I was using the trapeze to keep the boat (almost) flat on the water. As I was sailing on a reach with the tiller extension in one hand, sheets in the other, my body supported by the trapeze, my feet on the railing near the shrouds and legs fully extended, the trapeze handle broke. You can imagine how that ended... Looking at the trapeze handle, I noticed that the piece of the trapeze I hook up to is attached to the handle through a hole in the plastic handle. No wonder it broke! Is there a sturdier trapeze system for the CL16 than the plastic one I have? Maybe I'm in cause here: based on my description of how I was sailing, was I not using the trapeze properly? Any insight appreciated. Chuck

While no one replied to this post, I didn 't want to delete it during archiving, because I thought there was an inspiring energy about it.First, parts on a sailboat do break from time-to-time. So, we replace or upgrade them and resume sailing. Also, for many readers who ask about the sailing characteristics of the CL 16, your post affirms the Cl 16 as an excellent choice for purchase. - it is easily single-handed; - you can trapeze on it, even single-handed; - and in stiff breezes; - it is fast and fun. Not to mention that the CL 16 is functionally versatile, roomy, safe, stable, and forgiving. And did we say fun. IP: 67.158.71.3 |

This post did get me thinking about rigging up Celtic Kiss with a Trapeze system though. I'm glad you found it Pathfinder.------------------ Rob Dunbar Celtic Kiss #2120 IP: 71.7.133.180 |

I have been looking into rigging my cl16 for traps but found the CL boat shop prices jut a little bit unrealistic. I found a store in Ottawa that has every thing you need. http://www.thechandleryonline.com/ You need two of each of these
RWO #R4094, TRAPEZE RING w/BLOCK. 18.95 RWO #R4120, TRAPEZE HANDLE 4.25 CLAMCLEAT #CL253, TRAPEZE & VANG CLAMCLEAT 14.35 After this you just need the harness which I just picked up on ebay for 20.00 and the wire from the mast down. I will make this myself out of some old stainless wire I have around. I should be able to put it all together with harness for around 150 dollars compared to the 385.00 the CL wants. For the amount of fun the kid will have out there it will be well worth it. ------------------ Conrad Sea Wolf CL#1755 IP: 205.200.150.4 |
