Hello:We sail an ancient CL16 every summer while on vacation. Last summer we sheared off and lost the bottom half the wooden centerboard. I know that new fibreglass boards are available at a cost of several hundred dollars, but, if I could, I'd rather put the money towards new sails and fabricate the centreboard myself out of marine plywood. Does anyone have a centerboard pattern (or dimensions) or does anyone have experience with fabricating such a replacement? Thanks for your help!

I once thought of making an aluminum, centerboard and traced my existing board. I will look through my stuff in the garage and let you know if I still have the tracing. I had to reinforce my old centerboard with glass and epoxy on the leading edge and bottom. I will look Good sailing.IP: 149.174.164.83 |

I ran into this 4 years ago when I bought my CL 14. I bit the buller, spent the $ 250.00 and ordered a new fibreglass centerboard. The rest of the boat was 'like new'...so why not the centerboard.IP: 156.34.84.189 |

Oh yeah...! Forgot to mention that i tried to build a new daggerboard for my 12' Kolbi a number of years ago. It chattered when beating to weather. I must have been just a bit too thin. (I used plywood...that #$$% metric stuff.IP: 156.34.84.189 |

I found my drawing of the CL16 centerboard. I can mail it to you or make a sketch with the measurements. It would not be difficult to make a new board with the minimum shop tools and skill. With your existing board maybe some measurements would suffice to build a new one. If you plan on racing you would want a factory board. Sailing and cruising a homemade board would work fine. With the pivot bolt and brake the board would have minimal latteral wobble sailing upwind. Let me know Tom D. CL16 #438IP: 205.188.117.21 |

Thanks everyone for your great help. I've received lots of good information, enough that I can now start to re-build my rudder. I'll keep you postedGood sailing! IP: 66.185.84.198 |

Did you ever get a pattern for the CL-16 centerboard? If, so I would really appreciate knowing where. Dick Barnes St. Joseph Island, Ont.IP: 209.226.190.182 |

I would love a copy of the drawing. I still haven't made a successful board for my boat, and the summer is fast slipping by.. I mailed the drawing to someone in this listing. It was drawn on brown wrapping paper. I traced my board before repairing and glassing the leading edge. some in this group got it. It may be in postal tube. It may be in a garage or basement somewhere in Ontario. Sorry I should have kept a copy. Tom D CL 16 # 438IP: 152.163.100.7 |
