Hi all,Well my season has just ended. I noticed my forestay is frayed right at the top ferrule. I know an easy fix but I think I will replace it and check the rest of the standing rigging. My real question is about the steel centerboard the 1st owner installed.( I am owner number three). I have sailed this season with it and while the boat is very stable I worry about damage that could occur to the trunk because of the added weight. I guess these early cl16's had wooden centerboards and the original was probably damaged. I see water in the bilge but I suspect its from the washers leaking around the centerboard pivot bolt. Anyways I am thinking that it might be a good idea to pull out that bolt, inspect it and maybe put back in a new fiberglass centerboard. I wonder if a steel centerboard would actually be problematic in the event of a capsize given the fact that, if it retracted, it would certianly make the boat want to turtle. I think I have read that wayfarers sometimes are retrofitted with steel centerboards. If I pull the board and there is damage well cased closed , but if I remove it and all looks well then I am not sure what I would do. Any thoughts ? ------------------ Bob Crowley Luna #486 IP: 66.251.27.143 |
