Howdy, all, from Michigan. I'm looking for a used cover for my CL-16; I've been poking around the internet without much luck. Any ideas?

I just called my local canvas shop this afternoon. I'm waiting for a quote on a cover for my Sandpiper 565.
The guy convinced me that his treated canvas will last as long as Sunbrella at almost half the price per metre of material.

Don, if it wouldn't be a broach of protocol, could you share the info you get on that cover. Maybe we could negotiate a volume discount if several of us buy one!

Will do!
The cover I asked for will be used with the mast down and acting as a ridge pole. http://www.maritimecanvas.ns.ca/default.asp?mn=1.2

There is no better boat cover than one made out of Sunbrella!

Remember I do this stuff for a living. And will be making a cover for mine this year.

And the Mast will be down which means lots of Reforcemnt. And will require lots of canvas. I'll be doing this in the next few months and I'll tell you what it takes to have one.

If your contact should say he is using coast guard canvas it does look the same. But in five years you will know the Sunbrella is better.

Speaking of CL 16 boat covers... anyone know how to put it on? I've never managed to figure it out. And there are no instructions in the manual...

Sid...I'll post the information after he gives me the quote.
I'll bet you pay less for the Sunbrella than up here. My guy was quoting almost $40.00 CDN/metre ....not sure how wide.

I always figure a job by the yard for cost of the Sunbrella, and by the hour to do the job. Hot colors such as red cost more. Also it comes in 46" and 60" widths. In 60" good it would take about 18 yard of Canvas. About 350 dollars plus Labor. About 300 to 400 dollars. On a retail price a possible 700 to 800 dollars for a nice boat cover. On boat covers that I build, I repair them for free, with in reason for 5 years.

With in reason means repairs done when needed, not saved up for 5 years. And normal wear and tear.

Thanks for the input, all. The Gottschling site looked pretty promising, and got me thinking about something else -- a boom tent. But that's another thread. Thanks again.

I've got a used custom cover purchased directly from CL. It has some mold damage, but is probably salvageable. I'm going to get a new one. I would give you the old one for a song or maybe less.

About that CL-16 boat cover ...

Phew, LHolland, glad I checked back after a big weekend of sailing up on Hammond Bay in Lake Huron! Especially after oiling all that teak, if you know what I mean.

How shall we get together on your old cover? If you see this, perhaps you can drop me an email at masson@freepress.com ...
