I just found your great forum. Thought I'd join up after seeing all the wonderful photos of your 565 Rendezvous. I've had a 565 for about ten years now and I haven't used it for about the last four. Got into a larger boat, so I was looking for a place to sell the Piper when I happened upon your site. Seeing the photos made me think of all the great times we had with ours, so now I'm not so sure I want to sell her after all. Maybe I'll put her back in the water and give her a workout. Thanks for bringing back some good memories. I think the Admiral still will want me to give her up though. I'll keep you posted. Dave D. Fort Wayne, IndianaIP: 152.163.101.13 |

Hello Dave, several years ao I invited a couple of friends of mine to go sailing with me on my Sandpiper. They kept a 33 foot boat moored in the Keys. They also kept if leased in oder to help pay the dock fees. Living in Denver they got to sail thier boat about twice a year. The last time they found it damaged. Now back to the story. About the middle of the day of great sailing they looked at each other and said they had this wrong. Looked at me, and told me what a nice boat the Sandpiper is, a small boat with big boat qualities. And I get to use if often. They have since sold the boat and bought a smaller boat that they enjoy here in Colorado. Sid IP: 152.163.101.13 |

Unless you plan to do lots of coastal cruising, or have a lot of friends I don't know why you'd want something much bigger. At five grand for the boat...no yacht club memberships etc..it's a cheap, practical way to enjoy the water. The guy I used to crew with sold his Mirage 33 when the crew started to drift away.

Hi Dave, nice to have you aboard! Great to see another American Sandpiper in the fleet . Don't sell your Sandpiper!! They are remarkable little boats. I have taken to trailering mine around here and there, having a great time! I thought about moving up in boat size, but then I most likely wouldn't enjoy sailing as much as I do now! I would probably be situated in one marina. I've met so many great folks, because of my ability to trailer to different destinations. One such place was the BEER Cruise, down in Pensacola Florida this spring. Of course, the Rendezvous in Parry Sound was spectacular as well . For next year, I am planning to attend a large TrailerSailor Forum gathering at Kentucky Lake, the second Sandpiper 565 Rendezvous in the 1000 Islands (eastern Lake Ontario), and with any luck, join the Trailer Sailor Association for their North Channel Cruise. I really enjoy getting out sailing and meeting many new friends with my Sandpiper! For a good looking, easy to rig and sail, fast little trailerable, the Sandpiper 565 cannot be beat! Me and my friend Tom, in Mosquito Cove, Pensacola Bay: A flock of 'Pipers, Parry Sound: Happy sails to you. Eric S/V Paradise Barrie ONIP: 130.63.85.93 |

Thanks to all of you for the kind and persuasive words. Maybe I won't sell the S565 after all. I do remember the days of trailering it around. We could get a lot further by car and then sail. Now we just have to make do with some coatal cruising with the larger boat. Although we are retired. It's just a matter of priorities. Let's see.... do we work on the house remodel, or go sailing. DUH! Where did I go wrong?! I guess it's time to renew the trailer plates and the boat registration. See you on the water. Dave DickmeyerIP: 152.163.101.13 |

Eric where are you planning to go in the north channel and where do you plan to launch? I might not make the next Sandpiper rendezvous because of distance, but the north channel would be closer. Dave, does your wife (Dee?) sail with you? IP: 68.249.239.113 |

Dave, congratulations!! Glad you're going to get back in the cockpit of your Sandpiper again!! Hope we cross tacks some time!elmet3, I've heard of two decent places to go and launch in the North Channel. One is Spanish, on the mainland, pretty much in the middle, and Little Current, on the north side of Manitoulin Island. There are probably a few more. The NC is one place that is very high on my list of cruising destinations. I've not had the opportunity the last 2-3 seasons. Sort of crazy, since it's practically in our backyard! I've even heard of large yacht owners trucking their boats up from the south, to sail the North Channel!!! Must be a good place to go, huh ! If you want to see some great pics, check out the Trailer Sailor Association website http://www.trailersailors.org/ Looks like an amazing cruise!I would like to share a story related to the pic of me in Pensacola. We have all been watching, and reading about the plight of the folks in the Gulf Region. Pensacola already got hit this season by Dennis, (I believe was the name), earlier on. Katrina, struck not too very far away, from where we were sailing! The Canadian Navy and GC are at or are staging just a few miles off to my right in this pic. As you approach Mosquito cove from the east, you sail right past the small base. The cut to the gulf, is only a few hundred metres to my right, behind me. There are some areas down there, that make you feel like you're sailing the tropics. Unfortunately, alot of the gulf coast has been hit hard, and that saddens me. I met sailors from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and all across Florida, that have been affected by these storms. Folks there are very friendly, and very hospitable! I feel a sense of kinship, with them during these times, and share in their dispair. My heart goes out to these people. I certainly hope and pray, they are spared any further tragedy and hardship!
