Might be a good time to mount the hardware for a flag jackstaff on the transom. I suppose you would have to drill a hole at least an inch in diameter to accept the fitting.

Not a great pic, but I had bought this flag staff at a local marine store. It clamped on the stern rail.

I've always liked going big when it comes to flying the flag. Ken's topping lift arrangement lets you hoist a good sized flag. If you're a "Master & Commander" type you might consider this method. Very traditional.

If any of our American friends are comming to the rendezvous I would gladly exchange a small Canadian flag for a small American flag. Then we would each have a visiting country flag to fly when we cruise into port.

D'Arcy; If you keep posting those lovely pictures of ShortWave in her natural element, I may have to come over and steal her back! :-p

Apparently, the Canadian flag is the 3rd most recognized flag in the world. I believe the American and Union Jack are 1 & 2.

We could use a few more sailboats tied up at docks here. There's just way too many power boats on the lake.

I'm not sure if it's a good trend, but there are a number of wealthy cottage owners on the lake who have a Bluenose (or similar pretty sailboat) anchored off their shore as a piece of shorescape decoration. They don't sail them; just look at them sitting at anchor.

That's great Elmut. I'll have a Canadian flag for you when you arrive.
My offer still stands for any other of our American friends. The next American flag I receive would be going to Lake Ontario friends who will be sailing to Rochester and youngstown this summer (like my Brother).
Last summer, my brother charted a canal barge and cruised across France through their extensive system. He took his Canadian flag from his sailboat and flew it on the barge. Apparently all sorts of people walking, cycling, old and young, would wave cheer and shout "Bonjour Canada".

I've posted this picture before with the flag in the background. We attached our flag to our pole light on the stern. (Just ignore the fat guy on the right.):

Here's another view. (Admire the cute little swimmer as much as you want!):

I guess for our 'modest' sized cruisers, this is what I was thinking of.. http://ca.binnacle.com/online/product.asp?dept%5Fid=17060&pf%5Fid=23148

or even better http://ca.binnacle.com/online/product.asp?dept%5Fid=17060&pf%5Fid=23989

Don, I have the surface mounted socket. If you have a stern rail, I believe there are rail mounts available too. The recessed socket is nice, but you have one extra BIG hole to drill out .

My picture shows the sculpture, Spirit Catcher, on Barrie's waterfront. I was tied up on the wall in the marina. I now wish my flag had looked better fro this pic.
