Wow, was that great! I finaly got everthing in place to take Aquarius out for the first time Sunday. I have not sailed in a long time, and the boat has not been in the water for over ten years. My better judgement said wait for a less windy day (15-20 mph winds, gusting to 25+), but a had all I could stands, and I could't stands no more. Spent most of the time hiked over the gunnal handing on for dear life, but grining ear to ear the whole time. There was this great guy there with his wind surfer, and he help me launch. With the high wind it was welcome help. He thought the CL16 was a great looking vessel. Short of the brake on the centerboard Aquarius performed flawlessly. Even healed WAY over, I never felt that she was going to capsize. With a litle luck I'll get a chance to take my wife out before it gets to cold. My goal is to have her fall in love with this sport as I have.IP: 198.208.160.27 |

Great you got your sails and got her sailing. Did you go to your local lake or one of the bigger ones. The brake is a rubber cylinder with the two screws used to compress it. Use a long screwdriver and look down the centerboard trunk and you will see them. It is not very difficult to adjust it or even replace it. I am putting my boat away for the winter but next summer we should try to get together and sail. Take your spoiuse out when the weather is very favorable if she is not a sailor. I took her over to Duck Lake about 20 miles or so south of Lansing Mi.. It's only about 10 miles from my house, so it was great for this quick trial run. The lake is roughly 3/4 by 1 3/4 miles in size. Yea Tom, I droped the centerboard last week and saw how the brake worked. I Just didn't have time to fix it proper before my "Go for it" decision. Mine has a wooden rudder blade and center board which both need some minor repair and refinishing. I would like very much to get with you next season for a sail. Lets stay in touch.[This message has been edited by mharshey (edited October 05, 2004).] IP: 198.208.160.27 |
