I took my son and grandson sailing Thursday. We were planning to go Tues but I had a great aunt enter the hospital so it was delayed. We went to Gull Lake about 70 miles SW of me on two lane highways. The lake is good size several thousand acres and deep. I saw several other boats including a fleet of lazers racing. The largest Sailboat seen was a 25' Trailerable. Winds were expected to be 10 - 15 mph but it didn't happen. My grandson is one hyper kid. When the wind died he was not pleasant to be with. However we were on the water for 4 1/2 hours.Gentle breezes and we were able to stay on a tack 15 - 20 minutes at a time. This was a great lake to sail on. It was great to be on the water. It was even relaxing for the 10 year old. He very seldom can sit still for more that a few minutes. However with any breeze he was very good and was learning to pilot the boat. It took a while for hime to get the idea he had to pay attention all the time but after he had the boat going where we wanted he was much better. I don't know if it would work with all hyperactive children but sailing in a gentle breeze sure helped this one settle down. I had fears about taking him out but even his dad was able to relax while we were on the boat. Next week I take KatieAnn to Lake Michigan. I will be at Pentwater for 6 days and have either a slip on site trailer parking. No towing or setup will be needed. Now if the weather holds up I will sailing daily on one of the big lakes. Aunt Margaret will be ok at 90 but will have to go to a extended care facility. Good sailing to all. Tom D. IP: 198.81.26.106 |

Sounds like you had a great time with the grandchild, I had mine out last year ( 3yrs old ) she was good but slept most of the trip. Its never to early to get them started, and your correct it does help calm them down a bit.Bob IP: 209.226.190.168 |

Way to go Tom Very good of you to get the kids started early. They have a good teacher! My kids love to go swimming off the boat as well. It adds a special element to the journey. It breaks the trip up and gives them an outlet in which to play while out on the boat. Sorry to hear the sad news about your aunt.Eric IP: 130.63.85.93 |

I'm going to try to take 3 Grandkids sailing today. They are visiting from Germany. It would be their first time sailing. Age 3,5, and 10. Sid

You're brave. And since you're a sensible Sandpiper owner, I know you have lots of PFD's to go around.IP: 156.34.86.173 |

Yes, everyone one wore a life jacket. It was a good sailing day, and a good sail. But as always living in Colorado any thing goes. We had a fast moving storm move in and really blew us around. Had to drop sail and motor in. Everyone enjoyed their self. The 10 year old was a lot of help. The 3 and 5 year olds, both wanted to help. but all they really did is make me lose a little more hair. Still fun though. Sid IP: 64.12.117.21 |

I spent the day painting the windows we installed yesterday. i was under my 'Piper and noticed that a 3/4" gouge is actually all the way through to my matting. I cleaned the area & will mixup some epoxt to fill the hole. Otherwise I'm 'good to go'.IP: 156.34.86.173 |
