I am a self taught sailor and am now wondering if I am doin' something wrong?

Dealing three kids grand kids, and my wife helping. It worked fine so I didn't worry about it.

You guys always have the neatest hats. I guess the sun is pretty intense shining through that thin mountain air.

My 20 plus year old Tilley is starting to fray and rot in the front. The largest hole (about the size of a quarter) left me with a very interesting burn mark on my forehead this weekend. Anyone ever taken Tilley up on their lifetime warranty?

I was just talking about that with my BVI buddy on the weekend. Seems another local friend has wornout a couple of hats, sent them back 7 received new ones. Vic told me the guy doesn't bother to wash the hats...just wears them until they start to rot. I have two...one must be 8 or 10 years old.

The hat I was wearing two weeks ago is somewhere in Standley Lake. Blew off in a fast moving storm.

I miss a few spots with the sun cream. I got burned pretty bad.

Going to be in Florida starting tomorrow. Going to come back with a really good tan/ hope not burn.

Hi Sid. Great picture of you sailing on top of the world!

Something I noticed in your pic, is it looks like you have a control line(s) connected to the main sheet car, for car adjustment on the traveller. If so, I'd be appreciative of your experience with that system, rather than the plunger stops. Also, could you give some detail, or close up pic, of your car, and the routing and cleating of the control lines.

Thanks, and happy sails,
Eric

I live in never know about the wind Colorado, so if your talking about what I call the traveler, I just keep it centered. If I lived in a place where I could hold a course for more than 5 minutes I would use it. But all its for is at a set point of sail you would adjust it to have as little of the main sheet let out as possible. Great if you were in the ocean. or coastal bay where there is no shifting of the wind.

I'm on my way down to Florida for a week. Won't be able to get on here as much. You all have a good week, and I'll take those pictures for you when I get back.

Shortwave is intended as a strickly cruising boat so I had initially never intended to put in a crosshaul on the traveller.

Now having sailed in the shifty winds of Lake Rosseau, I'm having second thoughts. We'll get a nice breeze for a few minutes then a very light wind behind an island , then back to a good breeze rebounding off a rocky cliff. If we could easily centre the traveller in the light stuff then let it off in the gust the boat would drive more efficiently through all conditions.

It's actually quite similar to sailing in Toronto Harbour: Instead of cliffs, the wind bounces off skyscrapers. The wind gusts down Bay or Yonge Street instead of a cliff lined channel.

Talk to ya when you get back!

I am a little curious though. Why are you going to Florida in the heat of the summer??? It's going to some hot down there

I'm my sisters date to her 30 year high school reunion. And the going to run around on her new boat for a few days. This boat has a motor. Will be fun to go up and down the intercoastal.

I'm to busy during the summer to leave for a week. But this is a special thing. And yes its going to be hot down there. Its been almost 100 here.
