Got back from the Pentwater Trip.
I had KatieAnn moored at a marina for the week. Egad is cost $200. But I also had a place to park the trailer so I had no choice.
We arrived Sat afternoon and I put her in the water then unpacked and settled into the cottage with my wife's family, 4 adults and 3 grand children. Motored out to Lake Michigan about 1:30 and sailed for 3 -4 hours. It was great the breeze about 10 knots and the waves 1 -2 feet. Great sailing back and forth approx 3/4 mile off shore. I could see people at the park but could not identify male or female. What a relaxing way to prepare for the hectic week of all of us in a 2 bedroom cottage. Pentwater is very popular with sailors with many marinas and moorings in the little lake.
The water was crystal clear and blue in color as I would approach the shoreline the water would be have a greenish tint. There is a predominant west wind here and the shore runs north and south so the sailing was mostly reaching with the northbound closer to windward sailing. I went sailing every day except Wednesday because I had to return home for one of the grandsons ball came. He went sailing one time and I believe he will become a sailor. He learned real quickly and helped set sails on the big lake. Thursday my last sailing day I was out and the boat was performing fantastic.
I decided to try some unoffical racing. The two 15 footers would not leave the beach so I took on an old ODay 27. Sailing to windward I was able to catch and pass the bigger boat. I had a 12 knot breeze, the jib teltales were flowing perfectly and the main was in great shape. I kept the boat at an ever 5 degree list and moved forward.
This boat was performing great. The ODay had decent sail shape and a 150 genoa from my vantage position. After I passed them they truned and headed back to the channel.
I was not able to cahtch them on the run due to their big headsail. I was not loosing ground. It was exciting to feel the boat glide through the water so smoothly and quickly. The northbound trip was over a 1/2 hour, and less on the return.
All in all i had a great week sailing.
I will get some local sailing in and in Sept I take KatieAnn up north for another week of large inland lake sailing at Mullet lake. I will keep a log again this year for your patient reading later in the year.
Good sailing
Tom D.

Hello Tom, you have a gift with the written word I wish I had.

Sounds like A great week.

I'll be cruising the intercoastal around Boca Raton Florida today. Not on a sailboat, but that OK I'll be on the water.

Been raining every afternoon here, we hope to get out early.

Sid
