Made it back home at 1530 this afternoon after a 2500 km trip to pick up my 'new' 1986 Sandpiper 565. sail 1162 She's in great shape...the jib is better than my CL 14 jib and the main might be just about as good as the 14's. Lots of stiffness still in the dacron material...no tears etc. The hardware almost looks like new....especially the cleats, and chocks (fairleads) for mooring lines. All cushions (cabin & cockpit) accounted for and in very good shape. Foam not squashed or out of shape and covers looking dated but great condition. The original Evinrude Yachtwin 6 hp with charger came with it and a reasonably good Easy Haul (original) trailer. I had the bearings greased before I left and kept my speeds at 90km. No problem. Now I sell my CL 14 and add a couple of improvements to the 'Piper. Since it was a cottage boat (trailer has never been registered for road use) the original owner didn't add any electronics. Also got the original rigging booklet and sales brocure. Looks like they were read a couple of times & put away in a safe place. Couldn't believe it when the seller hauled out the stanchion/lifeline kit c/w screws and instructions. looks like the original guy (1986-2003) or current seller (2003-2004) order them from CL but didn't get arounf to installing. One of the actual lifelines is missing so I'll have to call Tom/Cody to see about another. The seller showed me an envelope from CL addressed to him but I couldn't makeout what he was saying. I think he was telling me where I could get the missing part. Now to clean the Piper up and decide if i should order the galvanized trailer with brakes. i wouldn't do much road travel without. I borrowed my brother-in-laws Dodge 1500 Ram pickup for the trip and could feel the load when braking on a downhill run.IP: 142.177.171.187 |

You know that Tom! Most regulars have probably heard my story on the Mirage 33. Our skipper bought itr 3 or 4 years ago and just had a new name painted on the side of the boat. Within a month we suffered a de-masting. IP: 142.177.168.148 |
