We went skiing We hauled the kids early from school last week and went to Jay Peak, in beautiful Vermont. They still had great conditions, and the temps were very decent for skiing! Here we all are,
Here are my two little fearless speed demons!,
Nice shot of the mountain,
Now that we've capped off winter, I hope we can get back to the springtime temperatures, so we can go sailing!! Eric [This message has been edited by Eric (edited March 14, 2004).] IP: 130.63.85.93 |

Nice Pics Eric: Have you folks ever tried skiing at Lake Louise?? I'm more into Cross Country cause there's less chance of me getting killed. Robert (the sailor formerly known as Celtic Kiss) IP: 142.173.199.127 |

LOL Robert! Ya, you have to watch out for trees that jump out in your way I skiied Louise, Sunshine and Panorama,... gee almost 19 years ago . Loved it and would like to return. But that was BK(before kids!)D'Arcy, I've never been east to ski. I/we loved it! I've not heard of skiing in New Hampshire, but they're so close together, it must be similar terrain! Say, we have to try and get together for a sail this year eh! I'm pumped for it! When the ice is out maybe we could bounce around some dates! Cheers, Eric

Ah...skiing! Once a year , my company would get a free day on a local hill. One year I took the whole family down on a beautiful sunny Saturday. This was the first time for all of us, so there were plently of falls and laughs. my wife sat on the balcony out of harms way while we struggled long. I found out latter that my oldest son had a great time watching the girls laughing at me each time I fell. Seems that my trousers would slip a little each time and expose a little more. he didn't tell me about this until the end of the day. D'oh! IP: 142.177.20.224 |

New Hampshire, although right next to Vermont has much more rugged terrain. It's quite spectacular. The down side of this is when you hit a bare spot in Spring it's usually granite! Take a pitex repair candle if you go. Seems whenever I hit something (sailing or skiing) it's usually granite. Interesting motto on New Hampshire plates: "Live Free or Die".When my Dad started us skiing back in the 50's he was sure that all the recless drivers weaving in and out of traffic were skiers. When he took up sailboat racing in the 60's he changed his opinion: He thought they were all sailors. I'm a telemark skier. In other words I ski down hill on cross country type skiis with metal edges. The heel is free which allows you to ski cross country over alpine meadows to beautiful back bowls, etc. You would recognize the distinctive technique if you've ever seen a telmark skier. If you've skiied at Whistler recently, I understand that you can now take a lift to these areas. But when we lived out west in the 70's, you had to ski cross country to them. Comparing regular downhill skiing to telemark skiing is like comparing powerboats to sailboats: If you don't completely understand the theory, you can't move. D'Arcy IP: 67.70.120.183 |

Eric:Great photos. Great memories. Skiing is a family activity. We did the competitive hockey thing for years. Dragged the entire family around from arena to arena for a few minutes of ice time. Now we all ski or snowboard. We are just back from Saint Sauveur. Three generations of skiers, 2 nights, 3 days at Mont St. Gabriel. Two of the older kids were missing - work & studies. Boy did I miss them. I got a lot older in just 1 year. At the end of January, my 17-year old son and I did the ski-bum thing. We drove non-stop from Ontario to BC. Ten days of skiing and then drove back. We skiied Fernie (2x), Kimberly, Panarama, Kicking Horse (2 days), Whitewater, Red Mountain, Big White and then stopped at Castle Mountain in Alberta before a marathon drive back to Ontario. I'd list the details, but I'm getting choked just thinking about it. Eric, keep those pictures handy. They will mean a lot very soon. IP: 204.92.62.68 |

Just returned from Mont Sainte-Anne, lots of fun. I was the only one who didn't get seriously hurt (only bruised hips, my mom twisted her knee, and my brother's wrist really hurt apparently). I will scan what good pictures I have when I get them developped. ------------------ Canadian Sailor ;) "Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. Wow!! We all seem to be avid skiers!!My wife and I decided a few years ago to outfit us all with gear and seasons' night pass at one of the local hills near Barrie. She and I skiied in our pre-kids days. Sure glad we did! It is as Superpiper says, a FAMILY activity. For what we pay, we're all able to ski and enjoy what it easily costs for hockey, and I don't have to stand around in early mornings and freeze my a$$ off! It also gives us the opportunity to enjoy what you see above! Can't enjoy this scenery inside an arena! Super'P',my wife has already framed a collage of the prints! I alredy hung it That's quite a western trip!! Don't think my kids could handle the drive! D'Arcy, I am familiar with telemark skiing, although I never done it. There was quite a few at Jay Peak, both youger and older. Doing moguls too! CDNsailor, sorry to hear of the mishaps! I hear Mont Ste Anne is, a good spot. The boys and I went to Mt St Louis Moonstone yesterday. Momma had to work . Conditions are softening up! It'll soon be over. As soon as the ice is out, I hope to get out sailing!! Cheers, Eric
