Almost everytime I sail, I ask the question, "What is that boat?" Most sailboats have a logo neatly displayed on the main sail, but I haven't been able to find (either on the internet or in print) a reference to tell what I saw out on the water. Is there such a thing?

Unless you really know your boats, it's tough to tell what make/model that are...especially at the dock. I like the way the Sandpiper has the logo on the front hatch and in the vinyl lettering.

When I was in high school (late-70's), I had a book of small boat logos. It was great. I don't know if I still have the book tucked away somewhere (I'm a terrible pack rat!), but I was thinking about it & decided I'd buy a new copy. I tried to find it through several searches at Amazon & Google to no avail. It didn't help that I couldn't remember the name of the book.

So, there once was a book like that, Bob, but I guess it's a second-hand store item! Let us know if you come across one. Maybe you should assemble one!

Cruising World put out an Insignia Guide for $1.50 (if sold separately) way back in their August 1985 issue. I had the good sense (read pack rat) to keep that and still have it. Although it has numerous pages of advertising, it does have 14 pages of insignias(sp) or is that insigniai...? Four of those are half pages that I compined in the count as two full pages. It may still be available, or they may have an update.

Thanks for the lead, Roger. I emailed CW & a kind fellow there is sending me a xerox copy! (They only have a few original copies in the files.) After it arrives, I'd be happy to scan & send it in a .pdf to any takers. Feel free to email me.

Here is a site that has some logos. You have to seach thru the pages to put a logo to a boat tho.

I have set up a page to make finding the symbol a little easier. If you hold the cursor over the logo the name will appear.

This is really great. Even with as many as are displayed in those web pages, there are many more that are missing. I will try to hunt down some of them.

I couldn't get the name to pop up Doug...but that will be quite the program.

I was looking for the Mirage line of sailboats produced in Canada up till the late 80's.
I saw one logo that looked similar but not the exact thing. (re Mirage 33)

Not sure why the pop-ups wouldn't work unless you are using an older browser. I have added titles so that you don't have to rely on the popups. I think this may have the startings of an off season past-time . If anyone has any other logos or corrections, please let me know at cl16man@rogers.com.

Excellent work there Fred. You should post your link to other sailing sites as well, and do forget to add a hit counter. This should be a popular reference site.

I came across another logo reference page. It's a .pdf with 600+ logos. I don't know if Dougster's site already has all the ones on this link. Probably does.

I found this link through the Small Craft Advisor Magazine's message board.
